At Hexton Bee Company, our Propolis Extract contains highest quality New Zealand 30% propolis tincture (ethanol base).
Known as ‘Natures Best Defence,’ it is ideal for those that want the full benefits of Propolis in its most pure format and during the winter months of cold and flu season, it is great to turn to nature for a one-stop solution to boost our immunity!
But What is Propolis?
Honey is not the only thing that bees make...
Propolis is produced by using a natural resin found in the young buds of trees. When a bee combines this sap with their own enzymes and beeswax, they create a sticky, greenish-brown product. This is propolis.
In nature, bees use the propolis to seal and line their hives. This creates the ultimate sterile environment and protects the hive against disease and predators, thus protecting their colony.
So Why Should We Use Propolis?
As we are always learning from nature, Propolis has been found to be an extremely effective preventative for illness as it is very high in bioflavonoids.
This makes it antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-microbial and has antioxidants that help fight disease and damage to the body.
Propolis has been found to be beneficial to your immune system and supports oral health.
How to use it?
Put a few drops, about 1ml, into a small amount of water, or apply a drop or two, directly to the back of the throat. (many people prefer to dilute as Propolis is quite strong)
Drink to build immunity or gargle with it if you have a sore throat. Apply it directly to sores and infections on the skin. Apply to cuts, sores, fungal infections, pimples, acne, and cold sores. Dilute for sensitive skins.
Propolis comes from a Greek word meaning “to defend the city”. Pro = for/ to defend and Polis = city/hive. It has been used for thousands of years for its medicinal properties, with ancient civilizations using it to treat abscesses and wounds. The Egyptians used it to embalm mummies!
Acts as an antioxidant. Helps with inflammation. Rejuvenates the skin. Helps support body immunity.
In regular use, propolis has been known to build resistance to respiratory distress, flu, coughs, and colds, and to assist the immune system without inhibiting the immune actions. Generally, there are few, if any, known or proven, bad side effects, however, for people who suffer allergic reactions to bee venom, or other products from the beehive, caution would need to be taken. Also, we would recommend caution if you are an asthmatic. Always start off with very small quantities at first and increase gradually, as with Bee Pollen. If in doubt consult your doctor. Not suitable for children under the age of 2
